UHCL Group Fitness offers safe, effective, and innovative programs to students and Recreation and Wellness Center members of all abilities.


Group Fitness Overview

Our classes are taught by certified instructors, mostly current students. We offer weekly classes during the fall and spring semesters with a reduced schedule during the summer that support cardiovascular training, strength training, flexibility, and more.

Whether you are an experienced participant who enjoys an extra challenge or a newcomer looking to motivate your fitness and wellness journey, our dedicated instructors will encourage and inspire you along the way.

Group Fitness Schedule

The Rec Center typically offers between 12-20 group classes weekly, ranging from cardio and yoga to strength training and body sculpting.

How to register for classes

Classes are offered with limited in-person spots. Class formats are designed to maximize social distancing whenever possible. Masks are not required but are encouraged.

Pre-registration opens 48 hours prior to class start time. Reserve your spot online with RWConnect group fitness options under ‘Group Fitness Registration’ or pre-register in-person or by phone at the RWC Welcome Desk.

Walk-ins are welcome until capacity is filled. Please arrive at least 5 minutes prior to class start time.

Group Fitness Semester Pass

Group fitness classes require a Group Fitness Pass to access 100% of group fitness classes. Purchase Group Fitness Passes online through rwconnect or in-person at our Member Services desk in RWC 203.

All group fitness classes are free and open for all UHCL students, RWC members, and guests during Weeks of Welcome which is Monday, Jan. 17 through Saturday, Jan. 29. Group Fitness Pass required for entry starting Monday, January 31.

Meet our Nationally Certified Instructors

Ashlyn Tocco

Ashlyn Tocco is currently pursuing her master's degree in Exercise Science and Human Performance here at the University of Houston–Clear Lake! She is a Certified Personal Trainer with ACSM and is looking to become a Group Fitness Instructor. Ashlyn loves and specializes in strength training. She wants to train others because she loves seeing others reach their fitness goals.

Dr. Aliya Beavers

Dr. Aliya Beavers is the Director of Student Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at UHCL. She has been teaching Pilates for 9 years and Indoor Cycling for 1 year. She holds certifications from the American Fitness Professionals and Associates (AFPA) and the National Exercise Trainers Association (NETA). Outside of working full time and teaching Pilates, she enjoys many forms of exercise, reading, listening to music and traveling to visit her family and friends who are scattered across the United States. Aliya feels that living a healthy, balanced, and productive life is the way to happiness and she strives to inspire others to do the same.
