Orientation and New Student Programs

Congratulations, and welcome to University of Houston-Clear Lake, where you can receive personalized learning that gets you far. We're happy to offer you unique and specific orientation programs to help you find your way around campus and to make sure you have a fun, exciting transition to life as a Hawk.

Our orientation programs are required for all of our incoming first-year, transfer and international students. We also encourage you to participate in our various new student programs to continue your engagement with our office year-round. All of our programs are designed to help you make the most of your years at UHCL. Through engaging with our office, you will learn more about UHCL, connect with campus resources, and most of all, you’ll meet other students and find our Hawk pride and spirit!

To give you information specific to your new student needs, pleases select the orientation program that matches your student classification.


Orientation registration is currently open for our Spring 2024 Orientation programs for students admitted for the Spring 2024 semester.

Please connect with Transfer Advising, your Academic Advisor or Academic College individually to register for your courses. Course registration is separate from the orientation event for the Spring semester. Additionally you can always contact our office for specific information and details.

Freshman Students

To be eligible for the Freshman Orientation program, at the time of their admission, freshman students either: 

  • Have between 0 - 29 credit hours, or
  • Be entering college for the first time.

Student Orientation and Registration

At Student Orientation and Registration, you will connect with your academic advisors, register for your courses, meet fellow Hawks, connect with student leaders, engage with campus resources, explore campus with a tour and prepare for the upcoming semester!

Transfer Students

To be eligible for the Transfer Orientation program, at the time of their admission, transfer students must:

  • Have 30 or more credit hours

Transfer Student Orientation

At Transfer Student Orientation, you will meet UHCL faculty and staff, connect with other students, gain a broad overview of university policies and resources and explore campus with a campus tour.

International Students

To be eligible for the New International Student Orientation program, at the time of their admission, International Students must:

  • Be an undergraduate international student, or
  • Be a graduate international student with a F-1 or J-1 visa

New International Student Orientation

At New International Student Orientation you will receive valuable information to help your transition to UHCL and life in the United States. Additionally you will meet UHCL faculty and staff, connect with other students, gain a broad overview of university policies and resources and explore campus with a campus tour.

Graduate and Postbaccalaureate Students

Orientations provided by Orientation and New Student Programs is not a university requirement for a majority of incoming graduate and postbaccalaureate students. Orientation is only required for new international graduate students with a F-1 or J-1 visa. All other graduate and postbaccalaureate students are welcome to attend our optional Transfer Student Orientation (TSO) program. Graduate students should contact their academic advisor or graduate program for more information about program-specific orientation requirements.
