University of Houston-Clear Lake's Computer Information Systems (CIS) Program offers a master's and bachelor's degree to accommodate students in different stages of their career journey. The program builds on a foundation of strong technical knowledge in computer science and emphasizes database systems, Internet development, computer networking, Internet security and software development. It also reinforces a broad understanding of other disciplines related to information systems and balances theoretical computer science knowledge with practical skills in developing and administering information systems.
The CIS instructors cultivate state-of-the-art and emerging technologies and have incorporated many of them, including Java, J2EE, NET, XML, CGI-Perl and Cryptography, into the curriculum. They also oversee a large collection of practical courses covering a wide range of computing fields. The hands-on experience you’ll gain can qualify you for work in various technical and management positions developing, operating, and maintaining computer information systems.
University of Houston-Clear Lake is a close neighbor of the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Clear Lake, which boasts the highest density of astronauts and high-technology professionals in the United States. In fact, Clear Lake came into being in the 1960s to support JSC. Over the years, many high-tech companies have sprung up around the university campus. Some of these high-tech companies sponsor research projects, mentor student projects, and hire our students. Highly qualified professional scientists and engineers from some of these companies serve as adjunct faculty members in our programs.
