Computer Information Systems Program

Program Overview/Mission

Welcome to the Computer Information Systems program at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. The College of Science and Engineering hosts the CIS program. We offer a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems.

The Bachelor of Science is accredited by the ABET under the Information System curriculum. The CIS program builds on a foundation of strong technical knowledge in computer science. The program emphasizes areas related to computer information systems such as database systems, Internet development, computer networking, Internet security, and software development. It also reinforces a broad understanding of other disciplines related to information systems, such as accounting, management, and communication.  The program balances theoretical computer science knowledge with practical skills in developing and administering information systems.

While students take core computing foundation courses such as data structures, they expose themselves to cutting-edge technologies in Information systems development, Internet and web applications, mobile computing, and network and systems administration. The CIS faculty gives students hands-on experiences. They gather the most up-to-date resources to create specialized laboratories. CIS students can use the Windows lab, the Solaris lab, the Systems Administration lab, the computer security lab, and the capstone project labs. CIS alumni blend their solid technical knowledge with practical, hands-on training. Their training qualifies them for work in various technical and management positions developing, operating, and maintaining computer information systems.
