The mission of University of Houston-Clear Lake Police Department is to provide exceptional law enforcement service and effectively respond to critical and emergency situations, while proactively safeguarding the lives and liberties of our community.
Our talented and dedicated staff works 24 hours a day and 7 days a week throughout the year to ensure we achieve this mission and attend to the campus, buildings and people under our care. We achieve this through providing educational opportunities to the campus community, conducting regular outreach efforts, offering escort services to cars at night, assisting impaired motorists and more.
An Accredited Police Department
In 2012 the UHCL PD became accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and was the first police department in the UH System to receive accreditation. In 2015, the UHCL PD was re-accredited through CALEA. In 2017, the UHCL PD decided that IACLEA Accreditation would better serve the needs of the police department and the department began the process of switching accrediting agencies. This honor is held by less than 4% of law enforcement agencies across the United States, and only 1.3% of campus police departments have reached this echelon.
Increasing Community Safety
We believe that a strong, positive relationship between the police department and campus community will make us all safer, as all of working together means we’re keeping an eye out for each other.
Sex Offender Registration
The Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act is a federal law enacted on Oct. 28, 2000 that provides tracking of convicted, registered sex offenders enrolled as students at institutions of higher education or working and/or volunteering on campus. The law requires institutions of higher education to issue a statement advising the campus community where law enforcement agency information provided by a State concerning registered sex offenders may be obtained. It also requires sex offenders already required to register in a State to provide notice as required under State law, of each institution of higher education in that State at which the person is employed, carries on a vocation, volunteer’s services or is a student.
All sexual offenders are required to register with UHCL PD. Please call 281-283-2222 regarding registration or stop by the police department located in the Bayou Building #1636.
Any member(s) of the University of Houston-Clear Lake community who wants to know the identities of sex offenders currently registered with the UHCL Police Department, may access the DPS Sex Offender Database.
