Introduction
UHCL Grounds Department employees perform a variety of tasks for the campus, such as mowing lawns, trimming trees, cultivating flower beds, maintaining plants inside and outside the buildings as well as handling pest control, irrigation, and fence repairs.
Hazardous Waste Disposal
The Office of Environmental Health and Safety is responsible for supervising the safe handling and disposal of all hazardous waste and materials. Proper disposal of all hazardous waste must be coordinated with the Office of Environmental Health and Safety (extension 2106). FMC assists as needed in the disposal of hazardous waste under the supervision of the Office of Environmental Health and Safety.
Landscape Maintenance
This department provides routine maintenance of the exterior campus infrastructure including daily landscape maintenance and irrigation, litter removal, and animal, weed and insect control. Seasonal duties include power washing of sidewalks and buildings, storm damage cleanup, parking lot and roadway asphalt patching, event set-up, and clean-up activities. Emergency repairs are performed as needed for tree removal, major exterior water line breakage, and pest control services. Submit a Work Request for interior pest control service as well as any other landscape maintenance-related services. For any emergencies requiring immediate attention, call FMC at extension 2250.
Pest Control
All pest control (roaches, ants, termites, animals, etc) is provided by FMC. This is requested by entering a Work Request.
Recycling
Aluminum and plastic recyclable items are taken to off-site facilities for proper disposal. For recycling pick up, please submit a work request.
