First-Year Experience
Living Learning Community

Led by the Center for Student Engagement, the First-Year Experience Living Learning Community (FYE LLC) is a NEW residential engagement initiative designed to support first-year students living in Hunter Hall as they transition into the UHCL community. Through a cohort-based model, up to 30 first-year students will participate in fun shared on and off-campus experiences that foster meaningful relationships, strengthen campus and Houston connections, and introduce them to leadership and involvement opportunities. The FYE LLC will intentionally connect and engage first-year students with leadership development, campus engagement, and student success resources.

The FYE LLC is open to first-year students living in Hunter Hall who elect to participate in this on and off-campus community experience. This is a free program with no additional cost for students.

Program Goals

The FYE LLC will focus on the following core program goals:

  • Successful Transition to College by helping students to develop healthy college routines, relationships, and support networks during their first year at UHCL.
  • Positive Sense of Belonging through shared peer experiences and relationship-building.
  • Leadership Development by introducing students to campus traditions, student organizations, and on-campus leadership opportunities.
  • On and Off-Campus Engagement by providing students with engaging on and off-campus programs and initiatives, such as participating in Homecoming traditions, exploring career pathways, and attending a Houston Astros or Texans game.

Program Participation

First-year students living in Hunter Hall who elect to participate in this program should complete this FYE LLC Interest form prior to the start of the fall 2026 semester. First-year student participants will commit to the following:
