Industrial Hygiene Program Educational Objectives

These are early-career goals students are expected to attain within the first few years of graduation.

1. Anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control hazardous conditions and practices affecting people, property, and the environment;
2. Communicate and interact effectively with technical and non-technical audiences;
3. Integrate ethical, social, current, and global issues and responsibilities in their practice as a professional in the field;
4. Work individually or on a team to critically analyze, interpret, and provide leadership to address and manage risks and challenges in occupational safety and health; and
5. Recognize that the practice of occupational safety and health requires ongoing learning and undertaking appropriate activities to address this need. Examples include involvement in professional and industry organizations, pursuing designations through recognized certification organizations, and post-graduate studies.

Industrial Hygiene Program Student Outcomes

The student outcomes describe the knowledge, skills and behaviors students are expected to attain by the time of graduation, as they progress through the program.  These are measurable outcomes the program will assess to ensure students can attain the Program Educational Objectives after graduation.

1. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve broadly-defined technical or scientific problems by applying knowledge of mathematics and science and/or technical topics to areas relevant to occupational safety and health.
2. An ability to formulate or design a system, process, procedure, or program for the intended purpose.
3. An ability to develop and conduct experiments or test hypotheses, analyze and interpret data, and use scientific judgment to draw conclusions.
4. An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
5. An ability to understand ethical and professional responsibilities and the impact of technical and/or scientific solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
6. An ability to function effectively on teams that establish goals, plan tasks, meet deadlines, and analyze risk and uncertainty.
