Lee Andrew Hilyer serves as Executive Director of the Alfred R. Neumann Library at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. He has nearly 30 years of professional experience in academic libraries and holds master's degrees in both library science and instructional technology. Hilyer is the author of three nonfiction books—two on interlibrary loan services and one on presentation skills. He is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and holds a Certificate in Editing for Publication from the University of Chicago's Graham School.
Hilyer has held positions in several libraries and departments throughout the Houston area. He served as Interlibrary Loan Librarian at Rice University’s Fondren Library, the Texas Medical Center, and the University of Houston’s MD Anderson Library. He later served as Head of Reference before becoming Head of Information and Access Services, a role he held from 2010 until joining Neumann Library as Interim Executive Director in March 2023. He became the library's sixth Executive Director in August 2023.
Hilyer is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Texas Library Association and the Society for Scholarly Publishing. He served as chair of the Texas Council of Academic Libraries (TCAL) for 2025–2026 and was recently elected to the Amigos Board of Directors for a three-year term (2026–2029). His research and continuing education interests include project management in libraries, scholarly communication and its writing and editing practices, and the scholarly publishing ecosystem.
