Welcome from the Provost
The University of Houston-Clear Lake is an incredible institution with a focus and commitment to student success. Approximately half of our incoming students each year are first-generation college students and the university has been designated as both a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and a Minority Serving Institution (MSI). We are proud of our diverse campus and firmly believe we offer a supportive university community in which every student can feel a sense of belonging and will have the tools and supports needed to achieve success. Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is not just something we say; it energizes and animates everything we do.
UH-Clear Lake has a unique history that continues to inform our path forward. Located in a nature preserve and situated adjacent to NASA Johnson Space Center, UHCL was created to meet a vital demand for trained engineers, physicists, and mathematicians to join the U.S. space program. UHCL has developed into a vibrant and growing campus with signature programs that are also now offered at UHCL at Pearland and at UHCL-Texas Medical Center. With an enrollment of more than 9,400 students, UHCL is a regional comprehensive university that is classified as a doctoral university with more than 70 undergraduate degree programs and more than 50 graduate degree programs. What all of that means is that we have a lot to offer! What has not changed since our founding is that our faculty are actively engaged in research that allows our students to learn through a hands-on process of discovery. Our outstanding faculty create a high-quality, engaged educational environment that is learner focused. I am confident that the robust and inclusive university environment that is offered at UHCL offers a transformative educational experience that will not only transform the lives of our students, but also the trajectory of families and our community.
