The Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS) is the administrator for Texas Employees Group Benefits Program (GBP) which provides health and other optional coverage to insurance eligible employees and their eligible dependents.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) is the third-party administrator for our health plans. As a full-time state employee, your health coverage and $5,000.00 of basic term life insurance is provided for you at no cost. The state also pays for 50% of dependent health insurance premiums. Coverage will become effective the first day of the month following 60 days of employment.
Optional coverages will become effective the first day of the month following your election date.
The University of Houston System partners with Aflac to sponsor several optional benefit plans in addition to the benefits currently offered by the Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS). Aflac offers Accident, Critical Illness, and Hospital Indemnity plans. The cost of each product will be the employee's sole responsibility and will not be supplemented by UHCL or UH System.
