Online Proctoring Resources

IMPORTANT UPDATE! UHCL’s campus license for ProctorU will ended after the Fall 2025 (FA25) semester. Beginning in SP26, ProctorU will no longer be available for online exam proctoring. Respondus LockDown Browser/Monitor will be the only online proctoring application faculty may elect to employ for their online tests, quizzes, and exams.
Although Respondus LockDown Browser/Monitor is integrated with UHCL's Canvas system, the Respondus proctoring tool is hosted and maintained offsite by the vendor of that product. Technical issues related to Respondus LockDown Browser/Monitor must be submitted by students to the vendor's support team via the support links below.
Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor - Student Information
LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within a learning management system. When LockDown Browser is required for an online exam, students are unable to print, copy, visit other websites, or access other applications. Respondus Monitor is an online proctoring solution that adds webcam and video analytics to LockDown Browser.
Getting Started with Respondus LockDown Browser
- Download the UHCL-Specific Version of LockDown Browser for you device. NOTE: There is also a short video on the download page that demonstrates how to install LockDown Browser.
- When it's time to take your online test, close all applications, tools, etc. on your device and then open LockDown Browser.
- Once in the LockDown Browser, navigate to Canvas (depending upon the course), enter the course, and open the test.
