Online Proctoring Resources

UHCL licenses several online proctoring solutions for instructors who deliver online quizzes, tests, and exams in Blackboard. The information on this page includes resources for faculty and students on Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor and ProctorU Review+ (with Proctored Launch).

Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor

LockDown Browser is a locked browser for taking tests in Blackboard Learn. It prevents students from printing, copying, going to another URL, or accessing other applications during a test. If a Blackboard test requires that LockDown Browser be used, students will not be able to take the test with a standard web browser. Instructors also have the option to use Respondus Monitor for proctoring with their quizzes and exams that use LockDown Browser. Monitor is a proctoring system for online tests that uses the student's web cam to record their testing session. Faculty can then review students’ exam sessions as needed from within the Respondus LockDown Browser tool in Blackboard.

ProctorU Review+ (with Proctored Launch)

ProctorU Review+ (with Proctored Launch) is also available for all classes. Review+ with Proctored Launch combines automated ID verification and a proctored launch process with AI-based monitoring and review. Faculty and students must both schedule exams with ProctorU well in advance to ensure that they have sufficient staff to proctor the exam start.

ProctorU Review+ (with Proctored Launch)

When reviewing the following resources on the ProctorU web site, make sure that you always focus on information for the "live human proctored" launch, rather than the automated launch information.

FA21 Update - Beginning in the Fall 2021 semester, ProctorU has enabled their new prechecks system for UHCL. This means that, for users who have taken exams through ProctorU before, things will look different upon starting an exam in ProctorU. The new prechecks system was implemented by ProctorU to create a smoother start and lessen the time spent waiting for a proctor. Below are links to a document that outlines the new student experience and a video that demonstrates the new procedure.
