First Flight - a UHCL Community Publication

First Flight is an annual online UHCL community publication, in conjunction with the UHCL Writing Center, which serves to highlight the short writings and artwork of students, faculty and staff.

The theme for each year's publication is announced in October, and submissions are accepted between Nov. 1 and Dec. 10. All submissions must reflect the current year's theme to be considered for publication in First Flight.

Writing Center staff volunteers review all submissions to select the entries to be published. Submission requirements follow:

• Written submissions should be a maximum of 500 words.
• Visual arts should be submitted in an electronic format, such as JPG, PNG, PSD, or PDF.
• There are no limits to the number of works one person can submit.

Current Theme: Connection

The theme for the 2023 issue of First Flight is Connection. This can be interpreted broadly as human connection, connecting flights, internet connection, or any other association you may have with the word.
