Student Health Insurance Plan

The domestic student enrollment period for the Fall 2026 term is 07/17/2026-09/12/2026. The voluntary enrollment period for the Spring 2027 term is 12/11/2026–02/10/2027 and for Summer 2027 is 05/14/2027-06/12/2027.

International students with an F or J Visa status will be required to activate their enrollment in the Student Health Insurance Plan or request a waiver each coverage period. Eligibility

Undergraduate students attending UH-Clear Lake who are enrolled in six (6) or more credit hours (three (3) for summer session) are eligible to enroll for coverage within the posted open enrollment time period.

Graduate students attending UH-Clear Lake who are enrolled in three (3) or more credit hours are eligible to enroll for coverage within the posted open enrollment time period.

Activation and Waivers

International students with "F" or "J" visa status are required to be covered under the UH System (UHS) Student Health Insurance Plan or have equivalent health insurance coverage, regardless of the number of credit hours taken.

At the time of registration, the student will automatically be enrolled in the mandatory UHS-endorsed Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) and will be charged for the coverage period on their student financial account.

International students with "F" or "J" visa status may request a waiver of coverage based on the UH System's waiver criteria. You must go online to AcademicBlue Enrollment Activation and Waiver Information page and complete the online waiver by the deadline dates each semester. The waiver deadline for Fall 2026 is September 19, 2026, the Spring 2027 deadline is February 10, 2027, and the Summer 2027 deadline is June 19, 2027.

Primary Care

UHCL Health Center can be your primary care facility with the university's insurance program.

Student Health Center Benefits: The deductible will be waived, and benefits will be paid at 100% for Covered Medical Expenses incurred when treatment is rendered at the Student Health Center.

Emergency

In an emergency, you may go to the nearest Urgent Care or Hospital to seek immediate medical attention without a referral. You will be responsible for meeting the required deductible as stated in the policy.
