Recreational Sports oversees the sports and recreational competitions and events hosted by the department. Recreational sports staff manage all sports leagues, sports tournaments, multi-day events, and single day tournaments. They also oversee and assist our recognized sport club organizations.

Intramural sports offer a wide variety of sporting and recreational events throughout the fall and spring semesters. If we don't offer something that you think we should, don't hesitate to email us at campusrecreation@uhcl.edu and suggest a new sport.

Sport clubs are student-led organizations that specialize on a sport or activity. They hold regular practices and enjoy competing with other sport clubs. Consider joining one of UHCL's sport clubs:

  • Cricket Student Association
  • Fusion Dance Team
  • Spirit Squad

A club may extend a limited membership to a non-student who is a current Recreation and Wellness Center member. Non-student members cannot participate in competitive or practice games.

  Starting a new Sport Club

If there is not a current sport club for a sport or activity you are interested in, you are encouraged to start one!!! The following procedures are in place to assist with the creation of new clubs and the expansion of our sport club program. Our hope to create a wide range of sports or activities that promote a healthier and happier UHCL campus and enhance the overall UHCL experience. Not all clubs have to be competitive in nature. We encourage and support clubs that are geared towards instructional or recreational involvement instead of competitive sports.

Becoming a Registered Student Organization

  1. Visit the Student Involvement and Leadership website to learn more about creating a student organization.
  2. Complete all paperwork, officer trainings, risk management trainings, and any other requirements set forth by the Student Involvement and Leadership office.

Becoming a Recognized Sport Club Organization

  2. The impact the proposed activity will have on existing open recreation, intramural sports, and other sport clubs.
  3. The availability of the financial resources to start and adequately fund the proposed activity.
  4. The opportunities to compete on a local, regional, national level.
  5. The ability to attract new members on a yearly basis.
  6. Sufficient student interest and level of leadership to create a self-sustaining organization.
