Congratulations and welcome to the University of Houston-Clear Lake! We welcome you to your first year at UHCL, and we're happy to offer you unique and specific orientation programs. At our programs, you'll find your way around campus and enjoy a fun, exciting transition to life as a Hawk.  

Our orientation programs are required for all of our incoming first-year, transfer and international students. We also encourage you to participate in our various New Student Programs to continue your engagement with our office year-round.

All of our programs are designed to help you make the most of your years at UHCL. Through engaging with our office, you will learn more about UHCL, connect with campus resources, and most of all, you’ll meet other students and find our Hawk pride and spirit! 

To give you information specific to your new student needs, please select the Orientation Program that matches your student classification.

Freshman Students

To be eligible for the freshman orientation process, at the time of their admission, freshman students either: 

  • Have between 0 - 29 credit hours, or
  • Are entering college for the first time.

Orientation for Freshman Students

Transfer Students

Students eligible to register for Transfer Student Orientation (TSO) must:

  • Have 30 or more credit hours

The orientation process for incoming Transfer Students includes attending a Transfer Student Orientation.

Transfer Student Orientation (TSO)

At Transfer Student Orientation, you will meet UHCL faculty and staff, connect with other students, gain a broad overview of university policies and resources and explore campus with a campus tour.

International Students

New International Student Orientation is your first chance to experience all that UHCL has to offer its students. Attendance is mandatory for all undergraduate international students and for all F-1 and J-1 international graduate students.

The orientation process for incoming International Students includes attending a New International Student Orientation.

New International Student Orientation (NISO)

During NISO, you will join other international students and receive valuable information to assist with your transition to UHCL and life in the United States.

Orientation for International Students

Graduate Students

Graduate students are seeking a master's or doctorate degree after receiving a bachelor's degree.

Orientation is only required for new international graduate students. All other incoming graduate students are welcome, but not required, to attend our optional Transfer Student Orientation (TSO) program.

Postbaccalaureate Students

Orientation is not required for postbaccalaureate students, but you are welcome to attend our optional Transfer Student Orientation (TSO) program.
