Biography
Dr. Van Wie received his Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of Missouri
and completed an APA-approved pre-doctoral internship at the Johns Hopkins School
of Medicine/Kennedy Krieger Institute Behavioral Psychology program. Following completion
of his internship, he continued at JHSOM/KKI for postdoctoral training with the Child
and Family Therapy Clinic. While at KKI, Dr. Van Wie provided evidence-based therapy
to children, adolescents, and families. Dr. Van Wie is a National Certified School
Psychologist (NCSP).
Dr. Van Wie directs the Stress Assessment and Intervention Lab (SAIL). His research
program broadly focuses on youth anxiety and depressive disorders. He is interested
in measuring trajectories of youth internalizing disorders to identify early intervention
and prevention strategies across youth, parent, and school-wide interventions. Dr.
Van Wie is further interested in social and environmental influences on youth and
adolescent internalizing symptom development with a focus on digital media use, exercise,
and school climate. His research also aims to identify opportunities to conduct strengths-based
assessments of children and adolescents (e.g., resilience, engagement, & well-being).
Clinically, Dr. Van Wie is interested in cognitive-behavioral treatments for anxiety
and depressive disorders. He is also interested in third-wave therapies (ACT & DBT)
as well as parent management training programs (e.g., Incredible Years, SPACE) and
Functional Family Therapy (FFT). As a supervisor in the Psy.D. internal clinical practicum,
Dr. Van Wie enjoys teaching clinical skills development and consulting with clinical
trainees.
Dr. Van Wie is committed to mentoring graduate students across masters and doctoral
level programs in the department. As an advisor, Dr. Van Wie aims to support students'
growth as independent researchers and scholars. He runs an active research lab that
routinely designs and implements experimental interventions, analyzes results, publishes
outcomes, and disseminates findings at conferences and training sessions.
See his curriculum vitae for more information and a link to the lab website. He will
be accepting doctoral students for the upcoming academic year
