Department of Communication and Studio Arts

Creativity Explored and Examined

Within state-of-the-art studios and computer labs in UH-Clear Lake's Department of Communication and Studio Arts, you'll prepare for your creative career.

Under the supervision of professors who are nationally and internationally recognized, Fulbright award recipients, published authors, or award-winning artists, you’ll develop a range of practical and creative skills. You’ll also gain invaluable experience entering your work in exhibitions and competitions, and building up a portfolio of your work.

Opportunities to Showcase Your Work and Succeed

Exposure and access to renowned artists will elevate and enrich your skills. UHCL’s art students routinely win awards for their work and are often accepted into MFA programs. As a communication or design student, you can publish your work at the university’s award-winning newspaper, gain professional experience through more than 100 internships in the Houston-Galveston area, and produce portfolios that demonstrate your mastery of written and visual communication for media and corporate environments.
