Texas Clean Rivers Program

Purpose/Objectives

The Texas Clean Rivers Program legislation mandates that "each river authority (or local governing entity) shall submit quality-assured data collected in the river basin to the commission." The goal of the CRP is to maintain and improve the quality of water resources within each river basin in Texas through an ongoing partnership involving the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality , river authorities (program partners), local and state governments, industry, citizens and other agencies. The program uses a watershed management approach to identify and evaluate water quality issues, establish priorities for corrective actions, and work to implement those actions.

Study Area

68 sites throughout the Greater Houston-Galveston area on a quarterly basis

Description

In conjunction with the Houston-Galveston Area Council and TCEQ, EIH collects and reports data from 68 sampling sites around the greater Houston area. Each site has the following set of field data/sampling completed:

• Field measurements: water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, pH, conductivity, and depth
• Field observations: cloud cover, wind data, air temperature, water odor/color/flow severity, tidal stage, turbidity, and recreational use
• Water samples: Water samples are analyzed for bacteria, TSS, TDS, VSS, NH3, TP, NO3+NO2, TOC, Cl-SO4, and OP
