Sherah McDaniel graduated from UHCL with a master's degree in environmental science in 2022. Her thesis project was "Foraging ecology of bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) in Galveston Bay, Texas." While completing her degree at UHCL, McDaniel worked as a graduate research assistant for EIH. She was also a team leader for the 2020 National Coastal Condition Assessment.

Sherah went on to become a senior research associate with EIH, leading field operations for the Galveston Bay Dolphin Research Program. She also served as the quality assurance officer and managed supplies for the Texas Clean Rivers Program.
