Art for Educators
Welcome, art educators! You are invited to work alongside UHCL's Fine Arts faculty to develop your personal artistic interests and abilities as artists and educators. We offer a variety of workshops every summer and we hope to see you at one of them!
Registration opens in February!
Workshop Overview
Workshops last three days with demonstrations by our expert faculty with open studio time for you to create on your art. You can work in one of the following areas:
Book Arts: Flag Books, Star Books, Stitched Pamphlet Books and more!
Explore a variety of book arts techniques including accordion books, flag books, and star books. We will begin with a pamphlet stitched book and progress to more advanced structures. All materials will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring source material if they would like to include specific materials in their work. Small images, stickers, stamps, found objects, ephemera, etc.

Photography: Portraiture
Explore the art of portrait photography in this hands-on class designed for adults of all experience levels. Learn to work with natural and studio lighting, composition, and posing techniques that bring out the individuality and emotion of your subjects. Through guided practice and creative exploration, students will develop a personal style while building a portfolio of expressive portraits. Perfect for anyone looking to refine their technical skills and elevate their artistic vision behind the lens.
Sculpture: Non-Toxic Rigid Coating for Carved Styrofoam Sculptures
Educators will learn how to create a durable, sandable, and paintable rigid surface that strengthens carved foam structures. This technique provides an affordable and accessible way to enhance student sculptures, making them more resilient and long lasting while maintaining a lightweight form. Ideal for high school art classrooms, this process expands creative possibilities while ensuring a safer, low-cost alternative to traditional hard-coating methods.
