Earn your Master of Science in Occupational Safety and Health from University of Houston-Clear
Lake and learn to design, evaluate and implement methods, policies and controls that
promote safer indoor and outdoor workplace environments. For your convenience, you
can complete the degree entirely in person or online. With rigorous coursework and
activities in simulated settings, you will learn how to anticipate, identify and avert
hazards in real-life situations, including physical, chemical and biological hazards.

Narrow your focus by choosing one four specializations in:
Industrial Hygiene
Involves anticipation, recognition, evaluation, prevention and control of workplace environmental factors or hazards that may impair health or cause significant discomfort for individuals. Geared more towards assessing and controlling workplace hazards, with hands-on experience.
Occupational Safety and Health (Online)
Focuses on the recognition, evaluation and control of health and safety hazards in the workplace and environment. Geared more towards working professionals seeking to advance their knowledge and career. Broader coverage of occupational and environmental topics.
Process Safety Management
Learn to improve an organization’s safety record through the identification, assessment and management of process safety hazards. Includes process hazard assessment, risk management plans and process safety management principles.
Safety
Focuses on anticipation, identification and evaluation of hazardous conditions and practices. Geared more towards the engineering and physics aspect of safety, ergonomics, human factors, and management of occupational safety and health programs and regulations.
Upon graduation, you’ll be prepared to pursue further academic training in occupational
health and safety towards a doctorate. You may also prepare for professional certification
examinations in industrial hygiene and/or safety.
The Occupational Safety and Health M.S. specializations in Industrial Hygiene, Safety
and the online option are approved by the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management
(IHMM) for the Associate Safety and Health Manager (ASHM). The IHMM certifies health
and safety professionals.
The Occupational Safety and Health Program specializations in Industrial Hygiene,
Safety and the online option are recognized as a Qualified Academic Program (QAP)
by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP). Graduates of a QAP are eligible
to apply for the Graduate Safety Practitioner® (GSP®), a BCSP-approved credential
necessary to apply for the Certified Safety Professional® (CSP®). It is only available
to graduates from degree programs which meet BCSP QAP standards.
