English Graduate Certificate
Strengthen Your Graduate Expertise in Writing and Literature
The Graduate Certificate in English at University of Houston-Clear Lake provides an additional credential for students who already hold a master’s degree or who are currently pursuing a master’s degree in another discipline.
This 18-hour certificate is designed to help students complete graduate subject-area coursework in English. When combined with a master’s degree in any field, the certificate completes the graduate coursework commonly required to teach dual-credit or community college English courses in Texas.
Build a Foundation in Literature, Writing and Rhetoric
Students pursuing the certificate complete coursework in writing and literature, drawing
from British, American, and world/multicultural literary traditions. Students also
select electives in literature or writing, allowing them to further specialize in
an area aligned with their academic or professional goals.

Admission Requirements
The certificate is intended for students who either currently hold a master’s degree in another discipline or are enrolled in a master’s degree program in another discipline.
Certificate Requirements
The Graduate Certificate in English requires 18 graduate credit hours.
Students complete approved graduate coursework in writing, literature, and related areas of English studies.

New, non-degree seeking, and returning UHCL students applying after the deadlines above may be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the appropriate graduate enrollment counselor for more information. A $50.00 Late Registration Fee or $50.00 Late Payment may apply.
