Biography
Chunlong (Carl) Zhang is a professor of environmental science and chemistry at the
College of Science and Engineering, University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL), and a
registered professional engineer (PE) in the field of environmental engineering. His
teaching and research interests are environmental chemistry; environmental sampling
and analysis; environmental remediation; fate, transport, and remediation of organic
chemicals and heavy metals in soil, groundwater, and sediment.
Dr. Zhang is a noted expert and scholar particularly in the field of environmental
analysis and contaminant remediation. He has published extensively (100+ journal papers,
Google Scholar: https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=vd8AI5wAAAAJ&hl=en) and is the author of two popular textbooks Fundamentals of Environmental Analysis
(2nd edition, John Wiley &S Sons, 2024, 547 pages), Soil and Groundwater Remediation:
Fundamentals, Practices and Sustainability (John Wiley & Sons, 2020, 477 pages) and
4 other books and book chapters. Both textbooks have been adopted by universities
in the U.S. and worldwide and translated into another foreign language.
Dr. Zhang is the member of American Chemical Society (ACS), Society of Environmental
Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC), Association of Environmental Engineering and Science
Professors (AEESP), and National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), and the
editorial board member of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry and Water, Air, &
Soil Pollution journals. He serves the advisory board for the Scientific Committee
on 5th through 12th International Conference on Environmental Pollution and Remediation
(ICEPR) in Europe, and the Standard Method Committee and Joint Task Group for the
Examination of Water and Wastewater (American Public Health Association-American Water
Works Association-Water Environment Federation).
Areas of Expertise
Dr. Zhang's areas of expertise include Environmental sampling and analysis; Environmental chemistry; Environmental remediation technologies; Fate, transport, toxicity and remediation of organic chemicals and heavy metals in soil, (ground)water, and sediment; Life cycle assessment and sustainable remediation.
