Jarred Gibson, DIT

Dr. Jarred Gibson is a lecturer in the College of Science and Engineering and the Department of Computing Science. A practitioner-scholar and former senior information technology leader, Dr. Gibson brings more than 14 years of experience delivering enterprise analytics, artificial intelligence–enabled systems, data governance initiatives, and digital transformation programs within the aerospace and defense industry.

 

Before joining the university, Dr. Gibson held progressive IT leadership roles at The Boeing Company, including Senior IT Business Partner, Senior IT Business Success Leader, and Lead IT Project Management Specialist. In these positions, Dr. Gibson led enterprise technology initiatives supporting more than 5,000 users, delivered more than 25 business intelligence dashboards and analytics systems, managed portfolios valued at more than $10 million, and directed projects involving machine learning, predictive analytics, system integration, modernization, and enterprise data governance. This experience provides a practical foundation for connecting academic concepts to the complex technological, organizational, and ethical challenges facing today’s computing professionals.

 

Dr. Gibson is also deeply committed to student development, STEM education, and workforce preparation. Through long-standing involvement with the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), Dr. Gibson has served as a career coach, STEM mentor, workshop facilitator, professional development instructor, and academic program leader. Since 2015, Dr. Gibson has supported collegiate and early-career STEM students through career coaching, résumé workshops, mock interviews, academic guidance, professional development, and mentorship. Dr. Gibson has also designed and delivered STEM programming for K–12 students and facilitated graduate-level workshops focused on academic pathways, research opportunities, and technical career preparation.

 

As an educator, Dr. Gibson has taught courses and developed instructional content in introductory information technology, cybersecurity, web fundamentals, and digital forensics. Areas of instructional and professional expertise include data analytics and business intelligence, data governance, artificial intelligence and machine learning applications, enterprise systems, digital transformation, project management, Agile and Scrum methodologies, and workforce development.

 

Dr. Gibson earned a Doctor of Information Technology (DIT) from Capella University, with a capstone focus on data governance; a Master of Information Management (MIM) and Graduate Certificate in Project Management (GCPM) from Washington University in St. Louis; and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCE) with a minor in Mathematics from Prairie View A&M University. Dr. Gibson also holds an executive leadership certificate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a certificate in digital communications and web design from Houston Community College.

 

A recipient of the 2024 BEYA Modern Day Technology Leader Award, Dr. Gibson is a lifetime member of NSBE and serves as a Region V Finance Zone Advisor for 2025–2028. Dr. Gibson is also affiliated with the National Society of Leadership and Success, Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Honor Society, and Eta Kappa Nu Electrical and Computer Engineering Honor Society.

 

In the classroom, Dr. Gibson emphasizes applied learning, mentorship, ethical technology practice, and the development of skills that prepare students for continued academic study and success in the computing profession.
