The University of Houston-Clear Lake supports an effective use of social media sites to connect with current and prospective students, alumni, faculty, staff and the community. Below is a list of some other known social media sites. Every platform is used differently by various audiences, so contact the Office of University Communications before creating a social media site to discuss your needs.

Google+ organizes users in groups to establish social networks and connects users to other features of Google like mail, drive, etc. In this platform, users collaborate with different groups at the same time.

Pinterest is an online pin board that allows users to create, follow and manage theme-based image collections based around events, places, hobbies and interests. People use Pinterest for inspiration for parties, home decoration, art, recipes, travel and more. Pinterest is used by organizations to display images in new ways to create interest around a specific group or event.

Snapchat is a mobile app that allows users to share photos, videos and original doodles with their followers. Users can also add fun and playful filters to photos for extra effect. Snapchat is used by organizations to cover live events and to provide users a more personal look inside an organization or business.

Tumblr is a blogging site that allows users to post photos, videos, graphics and other online content to share with their followers in a short-form blog. Organizations use Tumblr as a blog site that features content from not only the organization, but its followers. Note that the new UHCL website has a blog function for similar postings.
