Finding Aids and Digital Collections

HawkWorks and Current UHCL Archives Finding Aids

Currently, UHCL Archives publishes the finding aids and inventories to selections of its archival collections online as PDF documents within HawkWorks, which is the official UHCL Libraries' institutional repository. Finding aids are organized under subcommunities by collecting area or collection within the system. There are also selected digitized archival materials from the Archives, which were added between 2014 and 2021.

The UHCL Archives is moving to host its finding aids on its new ArchivesSpace catalog system by 2027. Digital collections materials currently on HawkWorks are being relocated to the Archives' new on digital collections platform Preservica by 2027.

UHCL ArchivesSpace Catalog

By late 2025, the UHCL Archives and Special Collections will be making its archival collections' finding aids available online within its new UHCL ArchivesSpace Catalog. The Archives is conducting a multi-year project to make its holdings discoverable and searchable in this new catalog system, with more archival collection finding aids being added after the catalog's public launch.

UHCL Digital History Portal

The UHCL Archives & Special Collections operates the UHCL Digital History Portal, a digital collections system developed by Preservica, to provide online access to selected digitized and born-digital records from all three of the Archives' collecting areas. The portal first launched in September 2025, with more materials to be added over time. Specific items or sets of UHCL records and Clear Lake Area historical materials that can be published without restriction will be made available for public access.

The portal provides full-text searching, the ability to download digital files, play audiovisual media, zoom in on records and photographs, and find citations for where to locate the materials within UHCL Archives’ holdings.
