Archives Access and Research
Most of our collections are open to everyone.
Access to NASA materials housed both within the NASA JSC History Collection, and within the UHCL Archives' Human Space Flight Collection, are currently restricted to onsite access by US citizens only. Additional restrictions do apply as to exactly whom is able to access these materials. Please contact UHCL Archives before planning a trip to use NASA materials. Performing this step first will ensure we can locate all the materials for your research needs within a timely manner, and that you are allowed to access the materials you are requesting.
Additionally, selected UHCL records sets and collections may be restricted for access only by senior UHCL administrators due to infrastructure security, facilities information, personnel information, and other content restricted from public access by applicable state and federal laws. All questions on access for UHCL university historic records labeled restricted should be addressed to the UHCL Archives Associate Director.
Research Appointments
We currently require research appointments, with at least one business day's notice from non-UHCL researchers. UHCL staff, faculty, and students may conduct onsite same-day research in the Archives. All researchers are required to sign in, complete a registration form, follow usage rules for historical materials, and show photo ID to use collections. A large number of our collection finding aids and the JSC History Collection indexes/inventories can be searched online in preparation for your research visit.
Reading Room Usage Guidelines
Detailed archival usage regulations for the UHCL Archives' Reading Room can be found here.
