Library Policies

Library Facility Use

The UHCL Neumann Library and UHCL at Pearland Library primarily serve currently registered students, faculty, and staff of the university.

Community users may use:

  • The library collections
  • Public access computers (students are given preference when all workstations are filled). The University’s Computer Use Policies apply to all.
  • Laser printers and free scanners
  • Open study areas

Currently registered students, faculty and staff at Neumann Library may also use (individually or in groups for study and class preparation)

  • Group study rooms for students only on a first-come, first served basis.
  • Quiet Study Room on the library main floor
  • Library Special Collections conference room for university faculty or staff only. Contact the library's research consultation desk for required reservation.

Library Computer Use

Public access computers in the library are provided to support library research in furthering the educational mission of the university. Students, faculty, and staff of UHCL have priority in using public access computers.

All users must

  1. Observe the law,
  2. Abide by the ethical standards established in the university's Student Handbook and the UHCL Automated Information Systems Acceptable Use Policy,
  3. Be courteous to other users,
  4. Respect the integrity of the computer system and the library's desktop configuration, and
  5. Be conscientious in the use of limited resources.

The Library staff reserves the right to direct a user to leave a workstation or to leave the library. Any illegal activity will be reported to UHCL police. Violations of the university's Student Life Policy will be reported to the Dean of Students Office, which may lead to further disciplinary actions.

Unacceptable use of the Library's public computers

Uses that constitute an abuse of resources or that compromise the ability of other users to make effective use of the system are forbidden. They include

  • All computer use prohibited by federal and state law.
  • Computer misuses such as spamming and performing personal commercial activities.
  • Any activity which violates the operational integrity of the workstation,including downloading to the hard drive or changing the configuration of the hardware or software.
  • Other computer misuses as defined in the UHCL Automated Information Systems Acceptable Use Policy.

Cautions

  • Individuals using the library workstations cannot be guaranteed any right to privacy.
  • The library assumes no responsibility for damage, direct or indirect, arising from the use of its computer and network facilities.
  • Display of graphics that may be construed as harassment of others could become grounds for harassment charges by other persons using the library. (See also UH System Sexual Misconduct Policy)
