Donetta Shelby, Ph.D.

Biography

Donetta Shelby, Ph.D., LPC, is an Assistant Professor of Counselor Education at the University of Houston–Clear Lake. She is a licensed professional counselor, counselor educator, and researcher whose work centers on counselor development and wellness, culturally responsive counseling, professional burnout, and the experiences of historically marginalized counselors and counselors-in-training. Her clinical and scholarly interests inform a student-centered approach to teaching that emphasizes the connection between counseling theory, professional identity, advocacy, and real-world practice. Dr. Shelby is also passionate about community education and developing sustainable approaches to wellness for helping professionals.
