Center for Educational Programs

The Center for Educational Programs (CEP), an integral part of UHCL's College of Education, offers academic and outreach services to students, schools, school districts and members of the community. The CEP also coordinates several community programs in conjunction with the College of Education, and collaborates with area school districts, educators and professors to determine how it can meet the community's needs.

Student Resources & Study Spaces

The Center for Educational Programs (CEP) is proud to offer a variety of resources designed to support student success, collaboration, and creativity.

Study Rooms

Students have access to dedicated study rooms available on a first-come, first-served basis with no time limit, providing flexibility to work at their own pace. Each study room is equipped with:

  • A whiteboard for brainstorming and problem-solving
  • A computer with printer access
  • Essential study supplies to support academic work

Kitchen & Collaboration Area

Our shared kitchen space offers the comforts of home, including:

  • Refrigerator and microwave
  • Coffee machine
  • Utensils and basic kitchen essentials

This area is perfect for taking a break, refueling, or connecting with peers.

Open Study & Project Space

Students can utilize open study tables and a variety of project supplies, including:

  • Markers, poster board, scissors, and more

Whether working on a presentation, group project, or creative assignment, CEP provides the tools needed to bring ideas to life.

Literacy Library

Our Literacy Library features a wide selection of leveled books available for checkout, supporting readers at all stages of development.

Our Programs

Professional Development

Professional Development offers continuing education opportunities to the greater southeast Texas community through professional development classes. Continuing professional education (CPE) credits can be earned. These credits are approved by the State Board of Educator Certification (SBEC). All classes may be held in person at the UHCL campus or online by educators that are leading experts in their respective fields.

Professional Development Programs

Educational Diagnostic Testing

The Center for Educational Programs offers standardized evaluations addressing intellectual functioning, cognitive abilities, academic performance and dyslexia for ages 6 through adult.  Additionally, college students may seek testing specific to 504 accommodations.  The assessment service is offered to the public for a reasonable fee. Test results are provided in a written form.

Literacy Clinic

The Center for Educational Programs and the College of Education's Literacy, Language Arts, and Literature Studies offer individual one-to-one tutoring for students in grades 1-12 during the spring, fall, and summer semesters. UHCL students in the Reading Practicum course tutor under the guidance of university faculty.

Tutoring Programs

KidsU

Each summer the Center for Educational Programs conducts Kids U and Hawk STEAM Academy, a summer enrichment educational day camp for students ages pre-kindergarten to 12th grade. Each camp offers a series of courses which opens up new possibilities and new learning, and promises a summer of excitement!
