Student Fee Advisory Committee (SFAC)
The Student Fee Advisory Committee (SFAC) is charged with recommending funding allocations for student services fees. These fees fund units, programs, and services within that division. SFAC is composed of nine voting members: five students, two faculty members and two staff members.
The committee is advised by four non-voting members, the associate dean of students, the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) business administrator, and the Student Government (SG) president.
SFAC meets several times during the latter half of the fall semester and during the
spring semester as necessary. In the fall, members receive a comprehensive orientation
that includes common budget terms, the SFAC process, and how to effectively review
funding requests. SFAC hears and reviews budget requests from departments within the
Division of Student Affairs and University Sponsored Organizations, which receive
student service fees in support of their goals for the next fiscal year.
Following these presentations, SFAC goes into deliberation. Once the deliberations
are finalized, SFAC forwards their funding allocation recommendations, as well as
a recommendation on the amount of the SFAC fee for the following year, to the UHCL
President and Vice President for Student Affairs for final approval.
SFAC receives its authority via the Texas Administrative Code (Education Code; Chapter 54; Section 54.5062).
The Student Fee Advisory Committee governing documents ensure they are operating in an effective way to meet their goals and responsibilities. For your reference, access the SFAC By-Laws online.
SFAC plays a pivotal important role, making recommendations on behalf of all students at University of Houston-Clear Lake. Their recommendations directly affect the student experience and the futures of many departments and programs.
