For Students

There are two different types of student participants: (1) students who are required to fulfill research credits in order to complete a course and (2) students who are taking courses where research participation is being offered for extra credit. There are links on the left menu bar for each category of participant. In general, the process is essentially the same. You need to secure your log-in information, sign up for studies on the UHCL BUS SONA site, and then participate in online and/or or on-site research. Please be sure to also read the Student FAQs for additional information.

Taking part in research being conducted by your professors is one of the best ways to learn how academic research is conducted within the various business disciplines. With a sufficient range of research available, you should be able to find something that peeks your interest!

Steps For Logging In To Participate

  1. Shortly after the census date for the semester, we will email your UHCL College of Business Research Participation System (RPS) User ID and Password to your UHCL e-mail account. If you have not received an email within two weeks of the census date, please go to the College of BusinessRPS web site to request an account.
  2. Obtain your RPS User ID and Password from your UHCL e-mail at https://webmail.uhcl.edu/. The subject line on this e-mail will read: College of Business Research Participation Login Information.
  3. Go to College of Business Research Participation System website at https://UHCL-BUS.Sona-Systems.com.  
  4. Enter the User ID that was provided in your UHCL e-mail, into the space next to User ID.
  5. Enter the Password that was provided in your UHCL e-mail, into the space next to Password.
  6. Select the Login button.
  7. You are now logged into the UHCL College of Business Research Participation System Website!

Once You Log In

  1. You will be asked to review and acknowledge the Human Subjects/Privacy Policy.
  2. After you fully read the human subject policy for research, select either “yes” to agree or “no” to disagree to the terms.After you click “Yes” you will be brought to the Main Menu.
  3. If you would like to change your password, choose My Profile from the top toolbar.
  4. On the Main Menu screen, select “browse a list of studies and sign up for those that interest you” (located in the Study Sign-Up section). This will bring you to the Studies Screen which lists all of the studies that are currently accepting participants.

Signing Up For A Study

  1. When you are on the Studies screen you will see a list of studies that are currently active.Studies with open Timeslots will have ‘Timeslots Available’ stated to the left of the study name.
      • To participate in a study, you need to select the study’s name and sign up for a Timeslot.
  2. When you select on the study’s name you will be brought to the Study Information screen.
      • To sign up for a Timeslot click the ‘View Time Slots for This Study’ link. Be sure to note the contact information of the researcher. If you are unable to attend the session you signed up for and the cancellation period has passed you need to contact the researcher(s).
      • Important Note: Be sure to read the study’s description carefully to make sure that you are eligible and are aware of any special instructions.
  3. After selecting the ‘View Time Slots for This Study’ link you will be shown a list of all open Timeslots for that study. Sign up for one by clicking the ‘Sign Up’ button to the right of a specific Timeslot. If you need to cancel a time slot you have signed up for, you can do this from the My Schedule and Credits page.
  4. The deadline to earn credits will be the Wednesday prior to the start of online exams for the regular semester.

Some studies are online. If you sign up for one of these studies, you will be taken immediately to the online study. You may withdraw from the study at any time by clicking the Withdraw button at the top right corner of the screen. For online studies, the date and time of a study is the deadline for participants to sign up and complete the study.

  Extra Credit Participation
 

Steps For Logging In To Participate

  1. Go to the UHCL Participant Pool Website at http://UHCL-BUS.Sona-Systems.com
  2. Select on Request an Account Here located under "New Participant?" on the lower left of the screen.
  3. FFill out the information requested: First Name, Last Name, User ID, Student ID, Telephone, and Course(s). If your course is not listed, pick Course Not Listed.
      • Your student ID for SONA purposes is your UHCL email address (without the @UHCL extension).
  4. Select on Request Account.
  5. We will receive an e-mail with your request to obtain an account, and we will accept your request.
  6. Obtain your UHCL College of Business Research Participation System User ID and Password from your UHCL e-mail at https://webmail.uhcl.edu/. The subject line on this e-mail will read: University of Houston-Clear Lake Participant Pool Login Information.
  7. Go to the UHCL Participant Pool Website at http://UHCL-BUS.Sona-Systems.com
  8. Enter the UHCL College of Business Research Participation System User ID, which was provided in your UHCL e-mail, into the space next to User ID.
  9. Enter the UHCL College of Business Research Participation System Password, which was provided in your UHCL e-mail, into the space next to Password.
  10. Select on the Login button.
  11. You are now logged into the UHCL College of Business Research Participation System Website!

Once You Log In

      • Important Note: Be sure to read the study's description carefully to make sure that you are eligible and are aware of any special instructions.
  3. After selecting the 'View Time Slots for This Study' link you will be shown a list of all open Timeslots for that study. Sign up for one by clicking the 'Sign Up' button to the right of a specific Timeslot.
  4. The deadline to earn credits will be the Wednesday before online exams begin for the regular semester.
