Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification Plan Science 4-8

Bring Students a Combination of Experience and Perspective

If you've been in a certain profession for awhile and you'd like to change to something with a more direct impact on society, a career in the classroom could be the right choice. By beginning a second career teaching kids the fundamentals of science you can bring a new perspective to help motivate students to learn more about science. The College of Education at University of Houston-Clear Lake has multiple accreditations is and well known for training outstanding educators. Qualified science teachers are highly coveted in today's job market, and upon completing your Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification Plan Science 4-8 you'll be well on your way to finding job success.

Create a Climate of Discovery in Your Classroom

At UHCL, your coursework will focus on academic specialization classes like biology and physics, as well as education courses such as educational psychology and science methods to prepare you for certification and to become an effective, well-rounded classroom teacher. Use your creativity, enthusiasm and previous career experiences to teach children to stay curious and observant so they'll want to keep discovering more about science. They'll become critical thinkers and problem-solvers and they'll use their science skills to progress successfully through high school graduation and beyond.

Although it is not necessary for students holding at least a bachelor's degree and seeking initial teacher certification to pursue a second bachelor's degree, those who wish to do so must meet the university's lower-level requirements in addition to the requirements for both teacher certification and the second degree, unless such requirements were met through the completion of the first bachelor's degree. These lower-level requirements are described in the Core section of the catalog.
