Literature M.A.

The Literature M.A. program is no longer accepting applicants.

Enrich Your Understanding of the Written Word

Literature faculty offer a variety of seminars in English, American, and World literature each semester during convenient evening hours. Readings will enrich your understanding of major authors and influential movements, introduce you to emerging and current authors, or explore such topics as literary theory, creative writing, women's literature, and poetics. A Literature faculty advisor helps each student to select a plan of study and to maintain progress toward completion of the Master of Arts in Literature from University of Houston-Clear Lake.

Specialize to Achieve Your Goals

UHCL's Master of Arts in Literature offers two optional concentrations: American Studies and Composition and Rhetoric. While you do not have to select a concentration to earn your degree, each option defines a path to further academic studies or a career. A focus on American Studies equips you for government service and other fields in which knowledge of American culture is rewarded, or for doctoral studies in related fields. Composition and Rhetoric develops skills for business, science, technical and creative writers. Finally, our two capstone options - a written comprehensive exam or a thesis - further allow you to shape your degree to support your goals.
