The Graduate Certificate in History at University of Houston-Clear Lake provides an additional credential for students who already hold a master’s degree or who are currently pursuing a master’s degree in another discipline.

This 18-hour certificate helps students develop advanced subject-area knowledge in history, with an emphasis on U.S. history and historiography. When combined with a master’s degree in any field, the certificate completes the graduate subject-area coursework commonly required to teach dual-credit or community college history courses in Texas.

Admission Requirements

The certificate is intended for students who either currently hold a master’s degree in another discipline or are enrolled in a master’s degree program in another discipline.

Certificate Requirements

The Graduate Certificate in History requires 18 graduate credit hours.

Students complete coursework in graduate research methods and approved 5000-level U.S. history courses.

Applying After the Priority Deadline

New, non-degree seeking, and returning UHCL students applying after the deadlines above may be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the appropriate graduate enrollment counselor for more information. A $50.00 Late Registration Fee or $50.00 Late Payment may apply.
