Assessment
How Will We Know the Goal Is Achieved?
As a necessary component of UHCL’s QEP, an assessment process was developed to determine which elements of the plan’s goals have been achieved and to what extent.
Survey Data
The QEP team is focused on ensuring that classroom and co-curricular implementation occurs. The Social Responsibility and Personal Responsibility Scale tool will be used to gather pretest and post-test data in courses that include practices of intercultural knowledge and competency.
There will be an assessment on the national scores of UHCL Collaborative Leaning Environment and Discussions with Diverse Others in the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE).
Course and Program Tracking
Additionally, the number of courses and programs in the League of the Rising Hawks where the intercultural knowledge, intercultural teamwork, and cultural humility are added over the QEP will be tracked. These cultural interactions can be examined under three facets: knowledge, skills, and attitudes. The QEP focuses on intercultural knowledge (knowledge), intercultural teamwork (skill), and cultural humility (attitude).
Student Learning Outcome Rubrics
Another assessment tool involves the use of rubrics. A rubric provides a systematic way to assess our ability to identify our own cultural patterns and compare them with others. Each objective of the QEP student learning outcome includes a rubric. These rubrics are drawn from the assessment tools available in the literature reviewed during the development of the QEP.
