Psychological Services Clinic
Meeting the Mental Health Needs of Adults and Youth
The Psychological Services Clinic (PSC) at the University of Houston – Clear Lake (UHCL) offers mental health assessment and treatment to the community, students, and the greater Houston-Galveston area. The PSC is located on the UHCL campus and client fees are established using a sliding scale to promote affordability and accessibility. Services at the PSC are provided by graduate students studying clinical and school psychology, and under the direct supervision of faculty and staff in the UHCL Department of Psychological and Behavioral Health Sciences.
Therapy – Evidence-based treatments (e.g., cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, parent management training) are available at the PSC. Common reasons for requesting treatment services include:
- Problems with anxiety and depression
- Coping with current stress and/or prior adverse experiences
- Parent training for managing children’s difficult and disruptive behaviors
Assessment – The PSC provides comprehensive psychological and psychoeducational evaluations for diagnosis and treatment recommendations. These evaluations examine a variety of psychological, emotional, and behavioral difficulties including:
- Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- Mood disorders (e.g., major depressive disorder, general anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder)
- Autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
- Specific learning disorder (SLD)
- Intellectual disability
Screening for cognitive impairment in older adults (age 65+) and testing for Texas security licenses (e.g., MMPI for Commissioned Security Officer license) are also available at the PSC.
Preliminary Consultation
Prior to making an appointment, all prospective clients are required to complete a free phone consultation. This allows us to better understand a caller’s service request, and we can provide referrals if the desired services are outside the scope of our clinic. Services outside the PSC’s scope include crisis intervention, forensic/legal services (e.g., child custody evaluations, evaluations for competency to stand trial), court-mandated services, cases currently being investigated by Child Protective Services, and evaluations to dispute the results of a school-based evaluation.

Appointment Policy
Clinic services are primarily provided in person, however, flexibility with telehealth appointments is available (e.g., accommodation for physical disability, if transportation is unavailable, if a client is traveling). Therapy appointments are typically scheduled as once-per-week, 50-minute sessions. If you are unable to make your appointment, please notify us as soon as possible. There is no charge for canceled or missed appointments, however, repeated last-minute cancelations or missed appointments may result in the termination of services.
Cost for Services
Fees for all clinic services are established via a sliding scale that considers family income, family size, and ability to pay. Though services are not offered free of charge, the clinic strives to make fees as affordable as possible for each client. Fees are due upon delivery of services (e.g., at the end of each therapy appointment), and payment via cash, check, debit card, or credit card is accepted.
Client Accommodations
We affirm the unique identities of our clients, including their gender, age, race, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, romantic orientation, religion, gender identity, or different physical or mental ability. In keeping with this commitment, any client who requires a special accommodation to utilize our services should contact our office ahead of time to receive accommodations.
