Strategic Plan Update and Looking Ahead

May 18, 2026
Dear Faculty and Staff,
Our strategic plan, Impact 2025 and Beyond, has served as the framework guiding many of UHCL's institutional priorities, initiatives,
and areas of focus. As we look toward the university's future, I want to share that
this plan has now reached its conclusion and will help inform the next phase of our
strategic planning efforts.
Guided by our "Three T's"—transform, translate, and transcend—the plan has helped
advance our mission over the last several years. Our strategic priorities of student
and faculty success, fiscal responsiveness, elevated profile and recognition, and
operational excellence and efficiency have informed divisional goals, strengthened
our foundation, and prepared us for the exciting next chapter of UHCL’s story, one
that we will write together.
When the plan was launched in 2019, none of us could have anticipated the extraordinary
challenges and changes that would follow. Through a global pandemic, economic uncertainty,
and a rapidly evolving higher education landscape, UHCL not only persevered but also
emerged more resilient and more united in purpose.
Throughout this period, our deep commitment to our students has remained unwavering.
Student success continues to be our North Star, guiding us as we prepare graduates
for meaningful careers, advanced study, and the next chapters of their lives. Equally
important has been the dedication of our faculty and staff, the Houston Bay Area community,
and the many partners and supporters who believe in UHCL's mission.
The strategic plan report will be finalized over the summer and shared on our website.
Development of our next strategic plan will begin during the 2026-2027 academic year,
with a formal launch anticipated in Fall 2027. Additional information regarding the
timeline and planning process will be communicated closer to the start of the Fall
2026 semester.
Sincerely,
Richard Walker, Ed.D.
President
