Reflecting on the Spring 2026 Semester

May 11, 2026
Dear Faculty and Staff,
As we conclude the Spring semester, I want to take a moment to reflect on the many
milestones our university community has celebrated in recent weeks.
This past weekend, we celebrated more than 935 graduates at our Spring commencement
ceremonies at NRG Arena. It was a meaningful day for our students, their families,
and the faculty and staff who helped guide them to this achievement. Watching our
graduates cross the stage served as a reminder of the impact of higher education and
the important role our university plays in transforming lives and preparing students
for meaningful futures.
Just a few weeks earlier, we welcomed over 300 future Hawks and their families to
campus for Admitted Student Day. The excitement and anticipation of incoming students,
paired with the sense of accomplishment and pride shared by our graduates, reflect
the full student experience at UHCL. One moment represented new beginnings, while
the other celebrated years of dedication, growth, and accomplishment. Together, they
demonstrate our commitment to opportunity, student success, and helping every Hawk
reach their full potential.
We also recently recognized faculty and staff during our annual service awards celebration,
honoring the dedication, service, and commitment of those who help move our university
forward each day. I would especially like to recognize the faculty and staff members
retiring this year. Their contributions have left a lasting mark on UHCL and on the
many students, colleagues, and communities they have served throughout their careers.
These milestones reflect the strength of our university community and the shared sense
of purpose that defines UHCL. From students beginning their time at UHCL to graduates
stepping into new opportunities, and from longtime employees concluding distinguished
careers to faculty and staff continuing the work ahead, each plays an important role
in shaping our institution and its future.
Thank you for your continued dedication to UHCL and to our students. I wish you a
restful and well-deserved summer.
Sincerely,
Richard Walker, Ed.D.
President
