Appointment of Mr. Terry Hanson as Vice President for Administration and Finance/CF

Dear Faculty and Staff,
 
I am pleased to announce that Mr. Terry Hanson will join the University of Houston-Clear Lake as our new Vice President for Administration and Finance/Chief Financial Officer, effective July 14, 2025.

Bringing more than 15 years of leadership experience in higher education and public-sector finance, Mr. Hanson has demonstrated a deep commitment to financial stewardship and institutional advancement. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Administrative Services and CFO at Kilgore College, where he led efforts to modernize financial operations and information technology while overseeing divisions including business services, procurement, financial aid, and information technology.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Hanson held leadership positions with the City of Fort Worth and Sheboygan County, managing large-scale operating and capital budgets, implementing Enterprise Research Planning systems, and crafting forward-thinking financial models to support sustainable growth. His breadth of experience, which includes facilities planning, public safety partnerships, and compensation reform, makes him an immediate asset to our university community.

Mr. Hanson holds an MBA from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and a bachelor's degree in accounting from Bemidji State University. He is also a Certified Public Accountant. His educational background and extensive experience position him well to lead our finance and administrative operations with vision and accountability.

In his new role, Mr. Hanson will serve as the university's Chief Financial Officer and a key member of the executive leadership team. He will oversee all aspects of UHCL's financial and business operations, including budget planning, accounting, procurement, human resources, facilities management, and campus security. His leadership will ensure these areas operate efficiently and align with the university's mission and long-term goals.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to Mr. Marty Baylor for his service as Interim Vice President. He has provided steady leadership throughout this transition, and I want to thank him for his dedicated service to the university. I also thank Provost Maynard, Dr. Ivelina Pavlova-Stout and the entire search committee for a job well done.

Please join me in giving a warm welcome to Mr. Terry Hanson as he steps into his new role at UHCL. I look forward to the leadership he will bring to this critical role as we continue building a strong and resilient foundation for the future.
