Conclusion of Budget Reduction Measures

Office of the President, Dr. Richard Walker

May 23, 2025

Dear Faculty and Staff,

Today, the university has completed the process of implementing our budget reduction measures, which included reductions to our workforce. This has been a difficult chapter for UHCL, and I want to take a moment to acknowledge how deeply these changes have affected our community. These decisions were made with care and only after thoughtful, thorough consideration. While they were necessary to protect the university’s long-term financial health, we know they affect our colleagues and teammates.

Throughout this process, we have remained committed to treating those affected with dignity, respect, and compassion. I am grateful to our Human Resources team, to the supervisors who approached this responsibility with integrity and empathy, and to the university leaders who ensured the process was handled with care.

I also want to thank each of you. Your patience, understanding, and support for one another during this time have been a testament to the spirit of UHCL. I know this has not been easy, and I understand there will be an adjustment period for all of us. But your continued dedication reflects the very heart of who we are as a university community.

As we move forward, let us do so with a shared commitment to our mission. The strength of UHCL lies not only in how we perform during times of success, but in how we care for one another during times of challenge.

Thank you for all you do for this university and each other.

Sincerely,

Richard Walker, Ed.D.
President
