Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF)
In April 2020, UHCL signed and submitted the Funding Certification and Agreement for three funding allocations within the Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (HEERF) Formula Funds and Minority Serving Institute (MSI) funds. UHCL received an allocation of $5,555,389 under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act and has committed to using at least 50% ($2,777,685) of these funds for direct student support.
The table below outlines total awarded funds to UHCL and their use to date. The CARES
act authorized a one year period in which all funds needed to be utilized. Each allocation
has its own award period, as shown in the table below.
Eligibility to receive HEERF funds is based on students determined to be eligible for Title IV funds and not enrolled exclusively in online classes. Students are determined to be Title IV eligible based on the submission of the 2019-2020 FAFSA application and all required documentation. In order to receive HEERF funds, a student must be enrolled at the time of requesting funds.
UHCL sent a survey on April 29th, 2020 to students that were eligible to receive an initial $300 award from the HEERF funds. The survey asked students to certify if they incurred an expense of at least $300 due to the disruption of campus from the coronavirus. The survey was closed on May 5th, 2020. Students who submitted the survey were awarded within 48 hours of applying. Additional financial aid awards can be made through the below links:
UHCL has also made available an application for students who missed the opportunity to apply for a $300 award, or who may be experiencing expenses greater than $300. Visit the Dean of Students online for application details. Students should review the application and submit the completed form directly to the Office of Student Financial Aid.
