Biography

Diane Smedley joined UHCL as a visiting assistant professor of counseling in spring 2023. She received her master’s degree in marriage, couples, and family counseling from Sam Houston State University. Presently, Diane is completing her Ph.D. in Counselor Education at Texas Tech University.

Her research interests include family development, scaffolding students across their clinical experience, and relational pedagogy and supervision in counselor education. Diane has served professional counseling at the national and state level; presented various presentations at national, state, and local conferences; and published in peer-reviewed professional journals.

Diane is also a licensed professional counselor and licensed marriage and family therapist. Previously, she worked in various settings including inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care; non-profit survivor agencies; and private practice. Currently, her clinical work primarily focuses on queer couples and the relational concerns of high achieving women.
