The Student Life Office serves and educates students and the university community by creating a supportive environment that provides opportunities for personal, social, and intellectual development. A four-part approach to Student Life, which involves providing services, programming, and leadership experiences, and spirit activities affords students the opportunity to enhance their academic experience and achieve their full potential.
As the interim director of Student Life, Cardenas leads his team to support student organization success, provides strategic direction in the coordination of our large events and office operations, leads the coordination of all departmental assessments, and serves as the point of contact and departmental lead in the absence of the director. He also advises the Campus Activities Board and Student Government Association.
Cardenas earned his Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and sociology, and a master’s degree in behavioral science-industrial/organizational psychology. He also obtained a master’s degree in higher education administration from Sam Houston State University.
Nash joined the Student Life team in August 2018. As the coordinator of Student Life for Organizations & Activities, he provides support, advisement and training to all registered UHCL student organizations, coordinates Student Life programming efforts, and manages the Get Involved platform and Student Life website. He is also the direct adviser for the Hawk Spirit & Traditions Council, the Mascot Program, and Hawks 4 Community.
Nash obtained his bachelor’s degree in mass communication-strategic communications in 2016 before obtaining a Master of Art in higher education-student affairs from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2018.
Bearden has worked in the Student Life Office at UHCL since October 2010. Before becoming the program assistant in October 2018, she served the Student Life Office as a student assistant and staff assistant. Bearden obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology in 2010 and a Master of Arts degree in industrial/ organizational psychology in 2012.
In her role as the program assistant, Bearden handles all the business-related functions for the Student Life Office, is responsible for all training aspects for student associates, and is the advisor to the EMPOWER student organization.
