ABET Accreditation Information

The Computer Engineering B.S. program at University of Houston-Clear Lake is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.

The Computer Engineering program has been accredited by ABET since 1999. ABET is the recognized U.S. accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and technology. More information about ABET can be found on www.abet.org

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

The Program Educational Objectives (PEO) are broad statements that describe what graduates are expected to attain within a few years after graduation based on the needs of the program’s constituencies. UHCL Computer Engineering PEOs are as follows:

  1. Computer Engineering graduates will have gainful employment in industry, government or academia.
  2. Computer Engineering graduates will have assumed additional responsibilities at their place of employment greater than those normally evidenced by entry level engineers.
  3. Computer Engineering graduates that chose to pursue higher education opportunities or certificate programs, have been accepted and are on track for timely graduation.
  4. Computer Engineering graduates participate in and considered valuable resources in their service to the community.
  5. Computer Engineering graduates engage and take leading roles in life-long learning opportunities.

Student Outcomes (SOs)

Student Outcomes describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time of graduation. These relate to the knowledge, skills, and behaviors that students acquire as they progress through the program. UHCL Computer Engineering program adopted ABET Student Outcomes (a) through (k) listed below:

  1. an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering
  2. an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
  3. an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability
  4. an ability to function on multidisciplinary teams
  5. an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
  6. an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility
  7. an ability to communicate effectively
  8. the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context
  9. a recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning
  10. a knowledge of contemporary issues
  11. an ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
