About Emily G. Sutter
Professor Emerita Emily G. Sutter joined the UHCL faculty in 1981. Elected to chair
several university shared governance committees over the years, she also twice served
as interim dean of the College of Human Sciences and Humanities.
During her first tenure as interim dean, Dr. Sutter proposed the creation of the UHCL
Symposium. Because of her respect within the psychological community, many prominent
psychologists in the Houston area presented at the symposium for no fee. Now in its
29th year, the symposium has maintained the tradition of top quality speakers presenting
on the most current issues in the field with no costs to the UHCL Psychological Services
Clinic.
In recognition of her more than 150 publications and presentations, she received the
Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award from both the Texas Association of School
Psychologists and the Texas Psychological Association. Retired since 2005, Dr. Sutter
and her husband now live in the Texas Hill Country.
