Faculty Development Leave (FDL) Grants provide faculty the opportunity to pursue suitable professional or academic activities for the purpose of improving their professional effectiveness.
Each college appoints a Faculty Development Leave Committee to implement the selection process outlined by UHCL Faculty Handbook, Section 7.10. When granted, the leaves are for either one academic year at one-half salary or for one long semester at full, regular salary.
Proposals for the FDL grants are to be submitted on or before December 15 of each year to the Chair of the FDL Committee of the individual colleges. Each proposal packet should include five copies of the following:
- Applicant's name, title, college, and academic area
- Curriculum Vita
- Statement of professional and other significant contributions to the activities and general development of UHCL
- Full statement of the activity and specific outcomes for which the proposed development leave is requested.
The FDL Committees from each college may select up to four proposals, which are submitted to the respective Deans. The Deans recommend up to two of the submitted proposals and forward their recommendations to the Provost by the beginning of March. The Provost receives and approves their recommendation and sends the recipients an approval letter and an FDL contract. The recipient then signs and returns the contract to the Office of the Provost prior to final approval by the President.
