Biography

Raised in Virginia, Rae Longest moved to Texas upon marrying in 1964 and transferred from Old Dominion College to the University of Houston. She began teaching after receiving a B.A. in English with a second major in speech and a Texas Teacher Certification in grades 6-12 in 1967.

After teaching one year in the Spring Branch Independent School District, she moved to Alvin, Texas, where she taught junior high for AISD for 20 years. She began coursework toward her master's degree in literature at UHCL in 1984 and completed it in 1986. After graduating, she was employed by Alvin Community College until 1989, when she was offered a position teaching Advanced Writing.

Currently, Longest teaches one class of Advanced Writing as an adjunct per semester. She spends the rest of her time blogging, undertaking literacy projects, and working in the community. She is also a life member (over 50 years) of The American Association of University Women and is active in her church and two book clubs.

Her passion lies with reading, writing, and anything "bookish." Her hobbies include three blogs, cooking (especially baking), running three Little Free Libraries in Alvin, and reading for pleasure. She tends to be a positive person and "collect" people.
