Biography
Dr. Alana Hatley received her Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition from the University
of South Carolina in 2018. She moved to Houston in 2019 and joined the writing program
at UHCL the following year. In addition to her scholarly and pedagogical interests,
she works to build writing communities with and for students.

Research Projects
Hatley’s research focuses on posthumanism and rhetorical theory, particularly animal studies. Her dissertation contributes to this discourse by describing a conceptualization of plant rhetorics, including rhetorics about plants and botany, rhetorics modeled after botanic sensibilities, and the rhetorical behaviors of plants themselves. Her work is now continuing forward into pedagogical theory.
